Environmental Engineer

Location: South Korea

Job responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Plant support

  • Perform analysis and applicability determination for new regulations and work with production staff to develop appropriate compliance processes
  • Develop training materials and teach classes as needed to operators, mechanics, and supervision
  • Assist manufacturing areas with questions regarding day to day compliance and rule application
  • Provide technical and  regulatory support to operations and engineering
  • Serve in rotating assignment as on-call environmental representative for release reporting to appropriate agencies
  • Respond to Environmental Events, as needed

General

  • Provide backup relief for other HSES Staff, when requested
  • Participate on various teams to standardize, improve and document environmental compliance
  • Provide site expertise in environmental management and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in implementation of waste minimization, pollution prevention and energy conservation projects as needed.
  • Participate on Corporate teams, as appropriate
  • Collaborate with resources at corporate and other Eastman sites to benchmark and identify best practices
  • Represent Eastman in contact with regulatory agencies and community and industry organizations
  • Prepare and issue reports to regulatory agencies, corporate management, and site leadership
  • Coordinate environmental and TSCA audits, inspections and assessments conducted by EPA, TCEQ ,  or their representatives; insure effective audits are done within the site
  • Perform site internal compliance assessments; work with corporate Compliance Assurance on triennial assessments and third-party Responsible Care Management System assessments.

Waste/Water/RCRA

  • Serve as Waste Management Technical resource
  • Provide assistance and technical expertise to Manufacturing regarding waste management needs, requirements, and opportunities
  • Maintain and update waste classification and waste profiles; review and approve outlets for waste streams; ensure manifests are managed properly
  • Ensure compliance with RCRA permit and waste management requirements
  • Groundwater program - coordinate sampling and compliance activities related to implementation of RAP plan and groundwater program; coordinate with corporate resources
  • Conduct RCRA, SPCC, OSPRA and Water Assessments
  • Manage Wastewater and Storm water compliance efforts – permitting, reports, data collection, sampling, interface with agencies and facilities
  • Manage compliance for, and update, BMP, OSPRA, SPCC, SWPPP and other regulatory required plans associated with Waste and Water
  • Assess and improve solid/hazardous waste and wastewater document management system

 Air Compliance

  • Contribute to  air compliance activities as knowledge and opportunity allow
  • Develop permit and rule compliance systems
  • Perform compliance auditing
  • Data collection, management, and reporting
  • Permit amendments and renewals

Capital Projects and Process Changes

  • Participate in capital project reviews including estimation of compliance costs, emissions, and pollution abatement requirements
  • Screen new processes and capital projects for regulatory concerns
  • Assess rule applicability and treatment options for new projects and waste streams – all media

 

Qualifications

  • BS degree required.  (Preferred disciplines Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience required - the following knowledge and experience is preferred:
  • Texas environmental regulations and practice experience
  • Working knowledge of chemical process industry operations and
  • Working knowledge of Responsible Care

  •  Ability to effectively represent Eastman interests with outside groups, companies, and agencies 
  • Service oriented and customer focused
  • Ability to perform duties indoors and outdoors in various weather and settings; including office, meeting rooms, maintenance shops, and manufacturing areas.  Work may involve climbing, work in congested areas, or work around chemical process equipment. The position may require periodic travel and occasional work outside a normal day shift work schedule
